Poppies

POPPIES

(3 - 5 years)

In the Poppy Room, the atmosphere of play encourages many learning opportunities and provides a forum for introducing a wealth of new experiences.

Children enjoy themselves, make choices and are challenged by aspects of play - the potential of which is unlimited.

We provide them with the stimulation and means to achieve this. Our programme is linked to and exceeds national and local curriculum guidelines to ensure balanced and relevant learning experiences.

EMOTIONAL, PERSONAL, SOCIAL

Children learn to form good relationships, to play co-operatively with each other, develop confidence and independence and to care for themselves, the environment and others.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE

Children learn to use language for a variety of purposes, e.g. conversation, role-play, story-telling, rhyme. They experiment with symbols, letters and writing and use books in all aspects of their learning.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

Children are encouraged to observe the natural world through their senses, learning to discuss and describe what they see, experiment, design and make and solve problems.

They become familiar with the use of ICT equipment and understand and use mathematical processes.

EXPRESSIVE AND AESTHETIC

Children are encouraged to express themselves and their feelings through art and craft, music and movement, drawing and puppets and to make music using instruments, songs and dance.

PHYSICAL

We ensure that children enjoy vigorous, energetic, physical activities every day to increase their feelings of well-being. They develop control of fine movements of fingers and hands by working with a variety of smaller equipment and media e.g. Jigsaws, scissors, wood, clay.

The vital contribution of education lies in developing and broadening the range of children's learning experiences, to leave them confident, eager and enthusiastic learners.
